Quixotic Quantum Quandary

Q³: I Have Friends

image

Yesterday I noticed a habit I apparently have, developed when I was a kid, that now seems to be the wrong routine. See, when I was growing up, our microwave always seemed to leave anything left in the middle of the plate cold. If you left something in long enough to warm the middle, then the food around the outside would be burned beyond eatability. This resulted in a routine where you carefully arrange the leftovers or whatever in a circular fashion towards the edges of the plate, leaving the center of the plate empty and cold. This is how I almost always build my plates to go in the microwave to this day.

But yesterday, in a shocking development, after inadvertently filling the center of the plate, I discovered that our current relatively cheap countertop microwave actually heats the center faster! I pulled the food out after the first minute to check the progress and found the item in the center thoroughly warmed, and the stuff around the edges barely heated. Mind blown, and microwave etiquette recalibration required.

If you missed last week’s Quandary, go back and take a look! We had a bunch of folks dancing around the answer, and getting very close, but it was the esteemed mdharrell that hit the nail on the head! Or, met the locomotive head on, might perhaps be a more apt expression. Very nicely done!

For today’s item, well, I don’t have a lot to say about it. If someone posts something on facebook, and they tell two friends, who tell two friends, etc, I see a weird thing and snag the picture to share here!

Remember, if you happen to have access to any oddball sort of tech related items, or just a blurry camera and an eye for weird photo angles, please don’t hesitate to send your ideas in! Simply email HycoSpeed@gmail.com and throw Q³ in the subject line and I’ll get right on it!

I admit it…I cheated on this one. My curiosity got the better of me. 🙁

It's an iron maiden for grapefruits or similarly-sized produce. Fun fact, this is considered to be the most metal juicer ever manufactured. (I know I said juicer last time, too…figured it was worth another go.)

I like the juicer idea. Otherwise, I feel a Megadeth song coming on…
