Michael Collins

Michael Collins

Michael Collins was an astronaut on Gemini 10 and Apollo 11. As command module pilot for Apollo 11, he was alone while Armstrong and Aldrin were galavanting on the moon. He took this photo, and thus is not in it. Matter can not be created or destroyed. That means that every human that lived up to the point of this photo being taken still exists, at least in some form, and every human that has been born since then was also is in this photo, at least in some form. Except Michael Collins.

When you look at it like that this photo is pretty mindblowing.

Some say the fabric of the universe has a few flaws. News reports from NASA say that " Titan", one of the moons of Saturn has lakes and ice caps not unlike this pebble we live aboard.
The absurdity of it is that we have a spacecraft circling one of the moons of Saturn.
    We are some explorers.

Must have been humiliating for Michael Collins. He was the only non-member of the least exclusive club in the universe.

…or the sole member of the most exclusive club in the universe. Plus, from here that huge, least-exclusive club really doesn't look like much. I guess the significance of this photo is really all about… <puts on sunglasses> …perspective. "YEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!"

This is only technically correct if you use a geocentric coordinate system.

And as long as your control volume is only around the Earth, moon and space between.

We're sure that's not his thumb in the lower left corner of the frame, then?
