User Input: Style Over Substance

Who thought this was a good idea?

Alright everyone, it’s time to put your style-hats on. We’re going to be art critics for the day, and take a look at the marketing side of technology. When it comes to the actual act of differentiating your product from that of your competitors, for the vast majority of companies out there, that job is done simply by their logo. Most consumer-grade electronics are practically clones of one another, to the point where you have no idea who makes it if you don’t see the brand label affixed to it somewhere. Perhaps the trained eye of a salesperson would be able to tell you if a particular monitor was made by BenQ, LG or Samsung, but for the most part, they all look exactly the same, so it falls to their identifying marks to be the determining factor.

And some of them suck.

My candidate for the worst is the LG logo above. It’s awful, and if I didn’t actually genuinely like their products, I’d probably never buy one just because that logo is offensively bad. It looks like something created by a Grade 8 student as a last-minute scribble for an art class. But I’m sure it’s not the worst one out there. I’m confident you guys can find worse.

What technology or electronics company has the worst, ugliest, or most unattractive corporate logo?
