molecular-mechanismI sneezed and lost the motor.

Seems to be working… for now…

I have a friend that does a lot of work on the molecular level, his favourite creation to date was a "fully functional guitar" only visible through the electron microscope. he sent me some screen-shots, I'll have to see if I can track down which hard drive they are on (this was back around '05 or '06)

      Pictures? I wanna hear it!

Your hearing must be quite keen…

          With a… micro-microphone. Or something.
The primary function of a guitar is to make noise, a fully-functional guitar must be able to make noise. Although I'm having trouble imagining how that would work on an atomic scale. Atomic-scale noise-like vibrations.
Maybe just pick up the vibrations from the image and translate that into sound. Like a laser microphone, but… Oh. I see how there may be specialized and perhaps otherwise useless and therefore nonexistent equipment involved in this process.
          Electron microphone?

the only reason he and his lab-mates did this was for fun,…..

no one gets to "hear" it…. you just get to watch the "strings" vibrate……. still searching HDDs looking for the actual files he sent me… the kid is now working on defending his dissertation for his doctorate… this was all undergrad work… I'll see if I can get him to send me the video again…

You might be able to use a laser to "hear" the guitar play…

  • The picture is gorgeous… BTW it seems that the attempt worked 🙂
