Nice scholarship for the winner…
Perhaps. It says "a chance at sharing $15,000 in college scholarships…" so it all depends on how that total was divided among the recipients. As a single award in 1961, that would have been far in excess of the cost of tuition, room and board, books, and all other expenses for an entire four-year program pretty much anywhere.
The text is a bit hard to read, but it looks like first place got $5000. Through fifth place also got scholarships of progressively smaller amounts, but probably still enough to cover 1961 tuition at Ohio State. http://newspaperarchive.com/zanesville-times-reco…
Gee whiz, Dad's got a pipe and a hat and Mom's wearing pearls. I'd like to think that they rode around in a Buick Invicta.
That'd still be a win for GM, but it suggests the Chevrolet Division may have aimed a bit high.
After another couple of years, they shopped for an El Camino.

Clearly they would have driven a Chrysler product, where you can still drive while wearing a hat!
