User Input: Creative Recycling

Could these be the electric sheep that androids dream of?

This photo comes to us courtesy of V8 Supercar driver Fabian Coulthard, teammate of friend-of-Hooniverse Jason Bright. Taken in his native New Zealand, it shows creatively recycled old phones and phone cables.

This is, perhaps, the best use of these old devices. Land-line phones are gradually going the way of the dodo bird, since most people only have cellphones. We have several very nice land-line handsets here in the house, yet none of them are in use; in building our new house, we opted to replace all the phone jacks with Cat5e network jacks instead — which, incidentally, weren’t hooked up correctly. We realized that network jacks were far more useful, and far more likely to actually still get used a few years from now. So my funky retro-styled phones will end up sitting on display, not actually connected to anything.

What is the most artistic re-use of old technology you’ve stumbled across?
