This photo comes to us courtesy of V8 Supercar driver Fabian Coulthard, teammate of friend-of-Hooniverse Jason Bright. Taken in his native New Zealand, it shows creatively recycled old phones and phone cables.
This is, perhaps, the best use of these old devices. Land-line phones are gradually going the way of the dodo bird, since most people only have cellphones. We have several very nice land-line handsets here in the house, yet none of them are in use; in building our new house, we opted to replace all the phone jacks with Cat5e network jacks instead — which, incidentally, weren’t hooked up correctly. We realized that network jacks were far more useful, and far more likely to actually still get used a few years from now. So my funky retro-styled phones will end up sitting on display, not actually connected to anything.
What is the most artistic re-use of old technology you’ve stumbled across?

Not recycling, but the telephone sheep made me think of this movie.
Seeing as those phone sheep are kept indoors, I hope their anti-tinkle circuits are still working.

If cars are considered technology here then i should mention there were a few sculptures in form of cows made out of old cars around here, IIRC the torsos were made out of old Hiace vans. Those are definitely artistic. Horribly ugly, but artistic.
…apparently there were several but this is the one i remember seeing. Only found one decent picture and i don't think the site allows linking pictures so here's an old fashioned link http://www.riemurasia.net/jylppy/media.php?id=659…
