Oh its perfectly all right. It will reform and merge itself back together in a few million years and it might drift a little off course but its no big deal because we got Mars to trash it. Once that's all done we can move back to Earth. In between we can establish a colony on the moon to prevent random people from claiming all of the Earth for themselves.
I remember reading a short story where this happened. There were people spread out all over the solar system, but they were all research stations, nothing self-supporting. Most of it was about people coping with the end of the race. Then somebody found alien life which was an ocean of goo. I forget how it ended.
