It’s here! YEAY! The day has arrived!!
After a fortuitous week-long delay due to inclement weather off the California coast, the Last Battleship USS Iowa (BB-61) will (finally) be departing her berth in Richmond under tow and making her way out the golden gate around 2:30pm, enroute to her new home in Los Angeles.
It is fortuitous because not only does this happen to be Memorial Day weekend, but also the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge itself!
We can’t think of a better send-off than having half the world watching and remembering as the majestic old grey lady takes off on her final voyage at sea…
I’ve written quite a bit about the ship in recent weeks (my apologies for the near obsessive level of coverage), but the post earlier this week was actually meant for today, and somehow I screwed up the scheduling on it after several delays.
In any case, you can follow/track the ship on her journey, and watch the live feed from her bridge as she navigates the SF bay and passes under the GG Bridge out to the open seas. Details and info are here at

And in case you missed it here is our original piece here on Atomic toasters…

Well this works out for another reason. It can be used to help defend us against an alien attack. As long as we remember to keep it fueled, armed with a few rounds, and to enlist its now 80 year old former crew.
Or we could we could go whole hog, install anti-grav and stardrives, and go out there and
hit them first!
You want to save the human race? Do they only have a year to do it?
