The Akron and Macon worked though. We just didn't have the stomach for them to be tested unfortunately. It seemed to futuristic at the time. In Europe they would have been useless during WWII because they are to vulnerable. In the Pacific they may have done well.

even better to know the US Navy did just that back in the 30s, too… check out the USS Akron and USS Macon. Good stuff.
