Airborne Awesomosity

Longer Than The Wright Brothers

A new world record has been set. Not for altitude. Not for the longest fingernails. Not for the most trivial knowledge of dead technology. No. This new record is 226 feet 10 inches and is the longest paper airplane flight. Hit the jump for the video.

I just made a copy. Now I need a pilot. I think my 4 year old is qualified. If not, we'll find out.

  • aastrovan

    Fine accomplishment,nice flight
But the spectators seem a little too enthusiastic
    Considering the medium.

    • schigleymischke

There appears to be something wrong with your nerd credentials. Please wait over there while we check with our supervisor. It'll just be a moment. (Call security. Now.)

    • metric_thumbs

With that sort of comment you must be British! As a Brit I love that sort of enthusiasm. It’s a great achievement, end of.

  • The Professor

That flight was a thing of beauty.

  • RahRahRecords

My friend Scott showed me that design back in college. They would get incredible hang time from our 3rd floor balcony.

  • Bah! It was coasting in ground effect, not really flying, for the whole second half of the flight.

  • skitter

    That was just beautiful.

  • texlenin

Hmm..scale it up a bit, fashion it outta
    carbon fiber…new drone!
    Gubmint contract
    profit!

  • craigsu

So, what are the rules? I assume it cannot be a wind-aided flight since it took place in an enclosed hangar and that it must be propelled by human hand.

Also, I had never heard of Fry's before this video. Seems like an odd sponsorship choice.

  • FЯeeMan

You've. not. heard. of. Fry's. Electronics?

Nerd credential check on isle 2. Credential check on isle 2!

    • Plecostomus

I might have to check your nerd cred for not knowing Aisle has an A in it

  • Victor

We should spend more time flying paper airplanes.
