The seller of this Apple iBook G3 is entirely too coherent to be listing things on Craigslist. He also seems to be hoping for a visit from Steve Ballmer. Maybe to get his secrets on virus-immunity.
In his own words:
Here’s a good-working laptop for email, web-browsing, school and office work. This cool-looking, Wi-Fi internet accessing, virus-hating laptop provides everything you need without breaking the bank. The classic, compact design of the 12″ iBook, (the thinnest, lightest laptop on the market when it was introduced) and the virus resistant nature of Mac operating system (they just don’t get them!) gives this laptop staying power, and contributes to its huge popularity among Mac aficionados and first-time users alike.

Are you interested? He’s asking $170. What a deal for a supposedly virus-immune, just plug-it-in-and-go laptop that will make you the envy of all your Mac-lovin’ friends! $170 seems like a cheap way to generate some nerd jealousy.

Sure, $170 seems cheap, but this is an eight year old machine that's completely obsolete by now. Nothing depreciates like old computers – not even American cars. Macs aren't immune to value crash, either. How about a brand new MacBook for $999? Or a new Windows 7 laptop/notebook for $400?
Surprisingly, looking on Craigslist, $170 for an outdated laptop is not unreasonable. Especially one with magical immunities to viruses. It does seem weird that when new laptops are going for $400, that a 5-year-old one would be going for $100.
Dammit, I should have used my sarcasm font.
But something appearing on Craigslist doesn't mean that it's actually being sold. There's a lot of wishful thinking here.
Very true.
I gotta have a CARD to get the WiFis?!? No thank you.
Also, LULZ at the cookie jar. Is that for sale as well?
What I really want is the toy truck…

That is an original AirPort card, which is 802.11b. If you can even find a hot spot, good luck with getting any throughput on that.
Also, 10.4 will be the last OS you will be able to keep on that. Most current Apple software is written for Intel only. PowerPC is becoming obsolete. Not because of performance, but from them just not writing code for the processor anymore.
Final note, the iBook is the most pain in the ass notebook to take apart. I also guarantee the hinge is almost seized.
You can get 11 MB/s on -b! That's like screaming fast if you're still on dialup.
My work Mac is 10.4. I tried to download Chrome, but Google told me "to go to hell with your lame PowerPC." So sad.
Ha, poor little Mac.
Part of my job is being a certified Apple Professional for a fiance firm, so I am spoiled to death.
